It’s amazing how much I have connected with the POPster community. I think Cari and I both claim that we are total fitness freaks and addicts, so it’s a fit that we got so addicted to this community. Anyone else feeling the same way? After checking all my past Facebook statuses and comments, I realized that these few MONTHS I have incessantly talked about working out and Blogilates. I hope it didn’t get on anyone’s nerves! LOL! I have made so many friends here, it’s crazy!
I never thought I would have so many internet buddies that have the same passion for fitness.
OH! Check out the rest of the ambassadors! I can honestly say they have become my workout buddies all over the world.
In addition to the celebration, I just want to quickly mention I was accepted into Nursing school! YAY! Hopefully I can still keep up with the community as I know it will be a crazy schedule!
Also, is this on the Blogilates 90 Day Meal Plan?
My dad made these to celebrate and I couldn’t stomach eating them… :/ Totally freaked me out! They are mini squid. I appreciated the effort though I think I will have to go with the fish! *chills down my spine*
Anyway, thank you again! And I just want to leave you with this quote to help you reach for the stars… No matter what!
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” –Henry David Thoreau
I follow a number of YouTubers and one of my favorite is Blogilates aka Cassey Ho. I stumbled upon her channel when I was searching for pilates on YouTube because those classes I took didn’t always fit my daily schedule. And boy was I impressed! Her workouts videos were clear, effective,…
Before I go on my holidays, I have to write this post. Past week had been extremely busy for me, as I have full time work (and it hella busy one) I didn’t have enough time to get things organized. So I had to do all the shopping, organizing last weekend and past two days. I walked round the island…
Now tell me the truth. Do you every get that lazy, complacent feeling of “Eh, I can always do it later…”? Sometimes it does feel great to relax and be free from responsibilities, but let me tell you don’t let this feeling overpower you, because it will be the death of you.
Once you’ve relaxed and taken a breather, move your bum and get on with your life! This is especially important with exercise and nutrition because in this case, complacency is what “killed the cat.” There is a reason why the most successful people are very successful and that is because they organize their time, and have a drive to get things that they want done. I have to reiterate again the power of that wonderful Nike slogan, “Just Do It,” because these 3 words are just so simple and easy to understand. Lots of people either, hesitate, wait too long, or are too lazy to do what they set out to do, which makes it so much harder to succeed, so why not Just do it?
Those who sit on their ass merely daydreaming and thinking about what they want to do, never reach their dreams because they either:
1) lack the discipline to take the initiative do things
2) are overly satisfied with what they have right now
3) don’t know how and what to do first. (Of course, there is also the issue of insecurity and diffidence but I’ll save that for another post!)
So how do you “JUST DO IT?”
So where were we?
Those who are unsuccessful (but have a surplus of amenities and don’t take initiative) …
1) Lack the discipline to take the initiative do things
2) Are overly satisfied with what they have right now, or…
3) Don’t know how and what to do first.
Let me first say, if anyone reading is in the first or second category, you must find something that drives you. Question your motives for why you are doing what you are doing (or why you’re not doing anything) and begin to “soul search” for why you’re not making the advances that you can in this minute, hour, day, year, etc. The best way for to wake up from any rut, is to ask yourself:
What is it exactly that you’re doing with you life right now, and are you happy with it?
Could you be doing better?
Are you where you want to be (albeit physically, financially, relationship-wise)?
Is there anything in your life you want to change for the better?
If you want a better life then you’re in luck, keep on reading!
Continue for more details…
Let’s face it. No one in the world is ever satisfied with every aspect in their life. There are always things that people can improve upon. After being honest with yourself and brainstorming what it is you want to achieve or improve, it’s time to set forth and find out how to do it…
For the third category, you know what you want, but you don’t know how to get it…yet. Again, be honest with yourself and set your priorities straight about how to attain your goal. Some tips I would use would be to:
Ask the closest people you know for advice. Usually people close to you can be brutally honest with you with because they want to help you better yourself and become successful. Allow them to voice their opinions about the situation, and assess them. Be frank with yourself if this would truly be helpful to your situation.
Shadow or ask those who are successful with the same thing that you want to achieve. An aspiring doctor wouldn’t follow around an astronomer to learn right? Find out who is the best and learn from them. There is no such thing as a stupid question, so embrace the learning experience. Remember that imitation is the best form of flattery, and will get you straight to where you want to be.
Be open and try not to get offended. Sometimes people can get overly sensitive about straightforward suggestions, but becoming offended just hinders you from really opening your mind and seeing the big picture. Just know that their suggestions are nothing personal, but can be used as a tool to be a “better” version of yourself.
Make an hour by hour, day by day, and month by month plan of how to reach these goals. What will you do from 8-9, 9-10, 11-12 in the Morning to achieve your goals? What short term goals should you have achieved by the end of the week or month? Most people that plan their day in advance stick to their plans and achieve more than those who do not. Planning is the key to success. If you don’t plan for success, then you have no plan at all!
Do not get discouraged if you fail at one point. Just keep going, because those who do end up surviving. A favorite quotation of mine from Michael Jordan is:
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” -Michael Jordan
That’s a lot of failures, but he’s a huge success to me! How about you?? Will you let one setback hold you back or will you push through it?
Now the last thing is to Just Do It! Nobody ever got anything done by being lazy! So stop procrastinating and do it!
Well this weekend was one of the beloved Gluttonya members birthday (Kristine) so Rupert and I decided to surprise her :) It was a lot of fun making the pancakes since this had been my 3rd time so I knew I would not have any messy pancakes! :) I have to thank Blogilates (Cassey Ho) for introducing me to them! They are absolutely DE-LISH. Trust me. Here is the link to them!
Makes four servings of three pancakes (3-4”)
1 cup instant, one-minute, old fashioned, or steel cut Quaker oats*
6 egg whites
1 cup fat-free Greek Style yogurt
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1T agave nectar, honey, maple syrup or sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
** I added sugar free jam and sugar free chocolate pudding to add some taste! You guys gotta try it!
Put all the ingredients in a blender and puree.
Coat a hot pancake griddle or frying pan with a little butter, oil or a non-stick spray.
Pour approximate 1/4 cup of batter to make a 3-4” pancake. Flip over once the batter starts to bubble.
*Quaker Oats are the same nutritionally. They roll the oats thinner to make them faster cooking. So steel cut isn’t better than old fashioned or instant.
Approximate nutritional Information for 3 pancakes (1 serving) Each pancake is one Weight Watcher POINT.
Now for a pancake picture session for the wonderful Birthday Celebrant! :)
So first here is the mixing of the ingredients. FYI: I mixed the wet ingredients first then i threw in the Minute Oatmeal so that its evenly mixed.
I used EVOO to oil my pan. Also, we had to reoil the pan a few times so the pancake didn’t stick! Oh! and 1 rice ladle is usually more than enough for 1 pancake. Make sure to spread it so it cooks well!
Now we’re cookin! :)
OMG Soo perfect!!!11!!! Ok so the trick is to keep the fire at Medium Low. It will take longer to cook but its so worth it to have perfect pancakes! I swear we had no burnt ones at all!! :D
Here are Rupert’s mini-oatcakes! so cute!
We had a lot of batter but it probably just makes 6-7 pancakes!
We decided to get creative for Kristine! This is also for you Cassey! We love you!
Make sure to cover the pan with a lid because it cooks more evenly and fluffs up more :) BTW look at the Bday candles! They are leopard/tiger/jaguar print :D
For this one we mixed sugar free jam in the batter and made pink hearts :)
This is me with messy hair. LOL sorry i just woke up!
Also, I knew you were going to be at Disneyland, so I made Mickey pancakes! :D We made breakfast for you too Cassey hahaa! :P
Chopped some strawberries for a pretty and tasty touch :)
Along the way we had to mix some sugar free jello pudding since we had to rush for the surprise! (btw this makes it taste like crepes! MMmmmm…)
Setting up for the surprise!
Yay the Birthday celebrant is impressed! Success!!!
I have a few things to tell you (R, K, and all the readers of this new blog). As you may or may not know I am pursuing RN school, and I am going through the application process. I have til September 9 to study and prepare…
To all the ladies trying to reduce the appearance of cellulite, here is a list of foods to avoid. Personally, whenever I eat too much salt, sugar, or refined carbs, it enhances the look of cellulite. Enjoy healthy eating and it’s beautiful benefits! <3 Janice
It’s so easy nowadays for girls to compare themselves to other women. It’s embedded in our minds as women that it is normal to compare breast size, leg length, waist size, butt plumpness, lip poutiness, the list goes on. Name a body part, and we have probably compared it to another girls body…
Ever wonder why you look like you’ve gained weight in pictures? Or why models look so photogenic in pictures, but stick thin in real life? Well I have researched and found out the scientific reason why! Continue reading to find out! - Janice
I’ve often heard people say “the camera adds ten pounds” when they’re photographed. Is that just an excuse or is there any truth to it?
No question there’s an element of denial here. Since you’re not looking at yourself most of the time, it’s easy to maintain a self-image reflecting the svelte physique you had ten years ago, as opposed to the corpulent wreck you’ve become. But that’s not the whole story. For reasons having to do with optics and the way your brain works, the camera can in fact make you look heavier than you are.
The main difference between a camera’s view of the world and yours is that the camera has a single “eye” whereas you have two. That subtly changes the way things look. Here’s an experiment. Pose a round object in front of a varied background — a coffee cup in front of the computer monitor worked well enough for me. From a distance of two or three feet, look at the object alternately with both eyes, then one. You’ll notice that, seen with one eye, the object looms larger in your field of vision, and obscures more of what’s behind it. It seems bigger and bulgier. In other words, it looks fat.
To find out why, look at the object first with your right eye, then your left. Notice the familiar shift in perspective known as parallax — background features hidden from one eye can be seen by the other. When you look at the object with both eyes, the brain blends the two views together. You see more of what’s behind the object, making it seem smaller. Result: binocular vision is slimming, monocular the opposite.
There are ways to compensate for the fattening effect of the camera. One is to use a telephoto lens when shooting portraits. Step back from the subject and zoom in — parallax, and thus the addition of pounds, diminishes with distance. (I knew a photographer who swore by the rule “Never use a lens whose focal length, in millimeters, is less than the weight of the woman.” Sexist thought? No doubt. Just saying it’s a guideline you might want to keep in mind.)
If you don’t have a telephoto lens but you do have digital photo-editing software, you can still step back when taking portraits and crop out the extra background later on the computer. If you’re on the other side of the camera, here’s some advice: watch out for amateur photographers who feel they need to have the subject fill the frame. They’ll tend to take portraits from three feet away, making it appear that your face has been painted on a balloon.
You say you’ve figured out how to compensate for the ten pounds added by the camera, but your subject is 20 pounds overweight? Still not a problem. There are other ways to make people look slimmer:
“Short lighting” can make a broad face look thinner. The subject turns one side of his or her face toward the camera and the photographer shines a studio light on the other side. Bright lighting on only half the face tends to elongate it.
Dress your subject in black and put him against a dark background, thereby concealing excessive circumference.
Have the subject turn at an angle to the camera, creating a narrower silhouette.
Let’s not forget those vertical stripes.
Get Mister Chubs to lay off the chimichangas. Not a terribly practical hint on the day of the photo shoot, but in the long run more likely to do him some good.
“Lose the sweetness! ”Neither start your day nor end your day with sugar. If you start off eating or drinking something with refined sugar, you’ll be sallow and dehydrated by lunch time and require even more sugar to keep going. If you eat sugar just before bedtime, you’ll wake up with dehydrated skin.” - Bren Lee Gomez, an esthetician and makeup artist in Los Angeles.”—http://www.michellephan.com/post/6-ways-to-look-better-for-free (via gluttonya)
